The story
I have always loved words. Some of my first memories are of being read to, and I learned to read so early in life that I don’t remember a time when I didn’t know how.
Once I learned how to write, I began to make stories and poems of my own, imitating the authors whose works I knew by heart: A.A. Milne, Mother Goose, the Brothers Grimm, Dr. Seuss, Rudyard Kipling. My oeuvre expanded with my reading list to include journals and letters, annotated bibliographies and lexicons, and the obligatory essays and reports.
In college, a professor noticed I had a knack for clearing up foggy prose and recommended me for a tutoring position at the university writing center. I discovered something I loved just about as much as reading and writing: helping other people write better.
I have worked in some professional capacity with other writers ever since.
